Real Estate Staging Tips

  • Declutter – Start slow and tackle one room at a time, purging your items little by little. You want to make sure that the kitchen especially has cleared countertops. Put all of those large countertop appliances away as you do not want it to look like your kitchen lacks storage space. Invest in a good storage system if needed. You will thank me later as it will be extremely helpful for when it comes time to move later on. 🙂
  • Depersonalize – I get it, you walk into a home like mine with little kids and my refrigerator is COVERED in homemade drawings or school art projects, but a potential buyer doesn’t want to see that. Find a great place to put it and store it away for the time being. Each of our kids has a memorabilia box of their pieces that we want to keep. Take down all of your family photos, as potential buyers want to be able to picture themselves in your home.
  • Repaint – A can of paint goes a long way for sellers. I recommend sticking to neutral colors, which will help to brighten your rooms. It can add value to your home, as a lot of buyers aren’t interested in painting rooms right away themselves. It helps to freshen up your home. Chipped paint on walls or in my case random small stick figures drawn somewhere from my kids, is a turn off to potential buyers. Quickly fix the room with a can of paint, and it will make the room look newer, but also have that fresh paint smell for buyers.
  • Improve your curb appeal – You want your outside space to look inviting. Make sure your lawn is mowed, bushes and plants are pruned. Add some additional plants, as well as some flowers for pops of color. Lightly mulch your garden beds, as it gives the home a cleaner look
  • Deep Clean.. and keep it CLEAN – Start from the top and work your way down room by room. If you have any type of excessive odor in your home, tackle those odors immediately as they could be a turn off to potential buyers. Invest in a pressure washer, and hose down your outdoor furniture, deck, walkway, driveway, etc. It’s a great way to freshen up the outdoor spaces. 🙂
